Semi Solid - Pharmaceutical

Semi-Solid dosage forms are the topical dosage form used for the therapeutic, protective or cosmetic functions. It may be applied to the skin, nasal, vaginal, or rectal cavity. Examples of semi-solid dosage form are ointments, pastes, cream, plasters, gels and rigid foams.

Drying Process #

Adjustment and control of moisture levels in solid materials through drying is a critical process in the manufacture of many types of chemical products. As a unit operation, drying solid materials is one of the most common and important in the chemical process industries (CPI), since it is used in practically every plant and facility that manufactures or handles solid materials, in the form of powders and granules.

Encapsulation Process #

The encapsulation unit operation creates the final dosage form that patients receive. This step compresses or encapsulates the formulation into the end product: a capsule.

Homogenization Process #

Similar to Mixing process but Homogenization method uses force (such as turbulence and cavitation) alongside high pressure to create a consistent and uniform sample. Because of its powerful pressure, high pressure homogenization is well-matched for both particle size reduction and cell lysis, which oftentimes requires strong pressure to disrupt cell walls.

Melting Process #

Melting is one of the primary process in manufacturing dosage forms. Key ingridients are melted in a container or usually a melting tank until it is ready to go through the next step in manufacturing process.

Mixing Process #

Mixing is an important part of pharmaceutical production. Operations can include dissolving solids and powders, preparing emulsions, combining raw materials, enabling chemical reactions, and milling active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), to name a few.

Reduction Process #

Reduction also known as Milling process is done to reduce particle size of solid to physically break down coarse particles to finer ones. Fine drug particulates are especially desired in formulations designed for parenteral, respiratory and transdermal use.

Washing Process #

Manufacturing equipment are also as important as their product. That is why we need to make sure it is always clean before running on production. Usual cleaning methods includes washing, disinfecting and sterilizing.
